Do I need to uninstall previous version before installing newest?

You do not have to uninstall azzCardfile version 3, as both versions may co-exist on the same system. You can even open an azzCardfile file with different program versions by selecting “Open With” in Windows Explorer popup menu.

After you save a file with azzCardfile version 4, you will not be able to open it with an earlier version (a backup file “.version3.azz.bak” will be created).

If you decide to return to using version 3 after making changes in your data files, you should export the changes back to version 3 format: select “File | Export“ in the menu and select “azzCardfile version 3...” in “Save as type”. After that you may safely uninstall version 4 and continue to use version 3.

I'd like to have installation disk...

I am not selling AZZ Cardfile installation disks. I suppose, when you register, you already have AZZ Cardfile installed. It is noted in AZZ Cardfile help and readme files and in the web site.

I recommend to download newest versions from azzCardfile web site - I make updates frequently and you can have most recent (and improved) version instead of an old disk.

If you have downloaded azzCardfile, It is easy to create installation disk. Copy downloaded file to the disk (CD, DVD or other) and label it 'azzCardfile 4 setup'.

How to transfer azzCardfile and all it's data to other computer?

You can easy transfer data from one computer to other.

You need:

1. azzCardfile installation file. Download newest from www.azzcardfile.net.
2. Your license file (azzCardfileLicense.txt). If you don't find it in your old PC, search your e-mails and find my message with subj. starting '001cazzCardfile License...', a file is attached there.
3. Your data files (.azz and .azzx). The default place for data files is 'azzCardfile Files' folder in your Documents. Search your system, if you are not sure.

After you locate necessary files:

1. Run installation file on your new computer.
2. Activate your license (Help | About | Import License file).
3. Copy your data files to the new computer. I recommend to use default folder 001cazzCardfile files001d in your Documents.

Will azzCardfile modify any of my system files?

During installation azzCardfile version 4 makes only one entry to Windows Registry for .azz file type association. After this Registry modification you can simply open Windows Explorer and double-click on any azzCardfile data file and Windows will know what to do - it will open azzCardfile and load the file that you selected.All settings for azzCardfile version 4(last used data file, window position on screen etc.) are stored in .ini files.

Where is my license file?

During registration the license file will be sent as an attachment to your provided e-mail. The message Subject starts with: 'azzCardfile License'; message Sender will contain 'azzcardfile' and a message will contain a small (4 KB) text file attachment (azzCardfileLicense.txt). Please check that you do not have a spam filter enabled that may prevent the delivery of the E-mail message and attachment. Please review your 'deleted items' and 'junk mail' folders for the License file.

Search your Computer for a file azzCardfileLicense.txt. If you can’t find it, search your E-mails for a Subject containing 'azzCardfile License'.If you lost your license file, complete the online form. Enter your Name, E-Mail and postal address which was used for azzCardfile registration.

Where are my registration codes?

Version 4 has a new licensing system, based on digitally signed License file. We have done away with the User ID and Serial Number scheme for registering the program.

Upon receipt of your registration fee, you will receive by an E-mail a License file attached and instructions how to activate it.

I have sent my payment, but so far I haven't received any license for the azzCardfile program

Usually, after receiving payment, e-commerce service sends confirmation to payer and cc to me. After that I immediately send necessary license file. Did you receive any message from payment processing service after your payment? If yes, please forward it to me. I will try to find out why I don't have this information. If no, contact with payment processing service (Plimus, SWREG, Kagi, or other - I use several), perhaps your payment didn't reach them.

Time period between payment and registering is 1-3 days. Sometimes license file is not delivered. I continue getting messages with subject line: Returned mail: User unknown. Therefore be especially careful typing your e-mail address in registration form. If possible, provide several addresses separated by semicolons. Remember: in many cases e-mail addresses are case-sensitive (don't mix uppercase and lowercase letters).

After payment I didn't get license file, I got some registration codes

You have paid for version 3, but installed version 4 or later.

Version 4 has new price and a new licensing system, based on digitally signed License file. We have done away with the User ID and Serial Number scheme for registering the program. As registered user of earlier version, you are entitled to buy a license at a special upgrade price $10 USD.Complete the Upgrade form. You need to provide your User ID.

May I use my license file on another computer I use?

Yes. According License Agreement:

What is cards count limit? What is card size limit?

Cards limit is something about 2,000,000,000. One card can hold large amount of data, limited by system memory resources. Tested 100,000 cards, size of one card was over 10 MB.

However, if cards count is very large, some actions (add new card, paste card from clipboard, etc.) can take a long time.

How to backup and restore azz files?

For unexpected events like computer crash, it is advisable to save your data files (*.azz) frequently. To do this manually either use main menu File | Save, or Ctrl-S. Alternatively, check-mark Autosave every: (set your desired period) from 'Tools | Options | Open and save'. Backup-files have extension .bak (Myfile.azz.bak for Myfile.azz) and by default(to change - use Options) reside in the same folder as original .azz file.

Restoring a .bak file is easy. Just rename it to .azz.I suggest to make a backup of original file at first (or save it by different name).For example, original file is 001caddresses.azz001d, backup is 001caddresses.bak.Rename original 'addresses.az'z001d to 'addresses1.azz', perhaps you will need it later.Then rename 'address.azz.bak' to001c'address.azz' and use it as earlier.

The best place for azz files is 'azzCardfile Files' created in your Documents after installation azzCardfile. I recommend to keep your license file there too.

I cannot open a file, get message 'This archive is not a valid zip archive'

This can happenif saving procedure takes a long time (more than a couple of seconds), and program was closed before this saving process ends.So far make a delay between saving file and clicking close button.Other suggestion - try to use uncompressed files: select this type in 'File | Save as' dialog. Set file extension to azzx. This problem has been fixed in the version 4.1 - a progress bar similar you see opening large files appear during saving and prevent closing too early. However, if it happens, first of all, restore your last saved .bak file (FILE is your file name): Rename original file “FILE.azz” to “FILE1.azz”find “FILE.azz.bak” and rename it to “FILE.azz”Try to open this restored file.

I cannot add, delete or edit any cards

Most likely, you pressed 'Read-only mode' button (between 'Options' and 'Search'). After you release it (or press F11 key), you will be able to edit cards.

'Read-only mode' button will press automatically when locked card is selected from the list. Click 'Card properties' in 'Card' menu and uncheck 'Lock Card'.

It doesn't import the files of Cardfile (*.crd) telling that the files are not crd's

Delete all graphics and other objects in the cards. If you can't import text-only cards, look inside crd file (open it with Notepad). MS Cardfile crd files start with letters 'MGC' (it is described in documentation) , but, perhaps, your file started with other letters (view it with Notepad). Load the *.crd file into MS Cardfile.exe and save it in 3.0 cardfile format and import again.

How to change default font of the cards?

1. Make formatting of some text on the card (several lines): set necessary font, line spacing, etc. This text should look like you want to be default. Select a fragment of this formatted text.
2. Go to 'Styles and Formatting' Task Panel (Format | Styles) and select 'Default' style in the template - first in the list.
3. Find a small toolbar above the styles list. Click on button #3 - rolled arrow pointed to right ('Apply format of selected Card text to selected Style'), then click Ok. (If this button is disabled (gray), it means, you didn't select any text in the card.)

Now your default style should be the same as selected in the card. You can try: create a new card and type there. Font and spacing should be as you formatted in step 1. This default formatting will apply to all new cards and imported files, where card text has no predefined formatting. Also, if you clear formatting, the default formatting will be applied.

If you want to change formatting of existing cards, do this:

1. If you need the same formatting to all card, just click 'Clear Formatting' button in the bottom of the Task panel (change 'to selected cards' to 'to all cards' if you need to re-format entire file).
2. If you don't want to clear all formatting, but to change similar formatted text to default (but leave headers, for instance, unchanged), select text which (or similar to which) should be formatted, then in Task panel change 'to selected text' to 'to all like selected' and click 'Apply' button.

You could find more details in the Samples (Help | Open Sample file), go to card 'azzCardfile Styles' - type 'sty' on the Filter.

It is difficult to describe, but I hope, after some trying, you can easy format your cards - more easy than in version 3.

Though styles are powerful and flexible tool for card formatting, using them is not always obvious, especially for such simple tasks as default font or paragraph formatting.

For that purpose 'Default Formatting' task panel was introduced in azzCardfile version 4.1

To open this panel click to 'Default Formatting' in 'Format' menu. Click 'Font' and 'Paragraph' buttons to change text and paragraph formatting to Default style. Preview changes in Sample text section above the buttons. Then select where you would like to apply this default formatting:

• Click 'Apply to new cards' to set default formatting to all new cards you will create in future.
• Click 'Apply to all cards' to apply default formatting to all existing cards in entire file. New default style will be applied to similar text and paragraph format as previous default - to preserve specially earlier formatted parts (decorated text) or applied styles.
• Click 'Advanced apply' to adjust details when to apply default formatting, if simple 'Apply to all cards' is not enough.

I cannot enter in the card supplement characters, like Ä, Ã, Å

It is fixed in version 4.1. However, if it happens, use this method:

1. Close azzCardfile, if it is opened.

2. Find file 'azzCardfile Settings.ini' in your Application Data folder (in XP system it is located somewhere 'C:Documents and Settings[USER]Application DataazzCardfile' in Vista or Windows 7 somewhere in 'C:Users[USER]AppDataRoaming').

3. Open this file with Notepad and find line 'FontCharset0=186' (bottom of file). Delete this line.

4. Do the same with lines 'FontCharset1=186', 'FontCharset2=186' etc. 5. Save the file and try azzCardfile again.

How to use the program with a command line which will allow to open a specific file in a specific card?

You can run AZZ Cardfile from command line (Start | Run) or shortcut, using parameters. First parameter is file name, second - card title. For instance, command line could be like this:

'azzCardfile' 'C:UsersUSERDocumentsazzCardfile Filesabc.azz' 'John'

When you run this command, azzCardfile opens file abc.azz and shows first card with John in the title. It could be useful in some automation tasks, batch files. You can put such command in Windows Scheduled Tasks.

Can it be used on a network? Is the program multi-user?

So far you can open azz file in exclusive mode - if somebody else tries to open a file, which you have already opened, a warning message will appear and a copy of the file will be opened. Then you can synchronize files using File | Import menu item.
