The console is a great utility that's avaiable on PC and Mac (Steam) versions of Fallout 4. Via the console, you can execute commands (cheats) that can change every part of the game - you can add items, spawn charcters, hide buildings, etc.
How to Open the Console
When the console is open, the game will pause, so you can take your time entering commands. Press the Enter key to activate the cheat code. The console will also remember commands you have inputted in the past. To view these press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow keys. You can scroll through the console by pressing the Page Up or Page Down key. Open Season is a side quest in the Fallout 4 add-on Nuka-World. The quest can be started at any time after exiting the gauntlet in Taken for a Ride by either speaking with Mackenzie Bridgeman in the Nuka-Town market or openly murdering any named or unnamed gang member.
Opening the console is done with the press of a hotkey. The hotkey used to open the console in Fallout 4 varies based on your keyboard layout. The most common keys are:
- ~ (tilde)
- ' (apostrophe)
- ' (quotation marks)
- ` (grave, the key underneath the ESC key)
If you've tried pressing all 4 of the above and none work, we recommend taking a look at your keyboard/mouse settings in the in-game settings screen to see which hotkey has been assigned. There is also a table of less common hotkeys (other keyboard layouts) at the bottom of this article.

How To Open Console Commands Fallout 4
Commands are simply words/sentences typed into the console that tell the game what to do. To execute a command, simply type it into the console and hit enter. An example of a command is player.resethealth, if you were to type this into the console and hit enter, your health would be restored to 100%.
Sometimes commands require arguments. Arguments are simply extra bits of information separated by spaces after a command.
The command player.removeitem removes an item from your inventory. In order to tell the command what item you remove, you need to specify an item id as an argument. The item ID for a flare gun is 001025ac, if you wanted to remove that from your inventory with a command, you'd type player.removeitem 001025ac. In the command player.removeitem 001025ac, the argument is 001025ac.
In our command list, there are many commands that require a target ID (reference ID). For help with these commands, please see our reference ID guide.

In Fallout 4, there are over 2,500 unique items: this guide will show you use the additem command to spawn in each and every one of them.
In order to use commands, you'll need to know how to open and use the console in Fallout 4. It's quite simple: just press either ` (grave) or ~ (tilde) on your keyboard to open it up, type in a command, and then hit ENTER to send it. If you are struggling to open or use the console, check out our console help page.
The AddItem command has the following syntax:
player.AddItem [Item Code] [Amount]

To get this command to add your desired item, you'll first need to replace [Item Code] with the item code of the item you wish to spawn. You can find all item codes on our Fallout 4 item ID list page. For the first two examples in this tutorial we'll be using the item code for adhesive, which is is 001bf72e.
After finding the item code of the item you want to spawn, all you need to do is replace [Amount] with the amount you wish to spawn. If you wanted to spawn 1 of the item, you'd put 1 there.
This command would spawn one adhesive:
player.AddItem 001bf72e 1
If you changed the 1 in the above command to 78, you'd be given 78 adhesive and the console command would look like this:
player.AddItem 001bf72e 78
